Discussion: What do you think about the new layout for Sarcasm and Lemons?

Discussion
             new layout

So you may have noticed that Sarcasm and Lemons got a fancy new layout about a month ago.  Hurrah!  'Bout time, and I tried to incorporate as many comments from the Reader Survey as possible, plus ideas from pro bloggers like Parajunkee who have great tips for what your layout needs.  Now that it's been live for a while, I'd love to hear your thoughts!  I know lots of you have great blogging experience and have tricks I've never even thought of.

(a) What are your general thoughts about the layout?

(b) What parts do you find unhelpful that could go away?

(c) Is there anything missing from the layout (sidebar, page links, etc.) that you would find useful?

(d) Other thoughts?

I appreciate each and every comment!  I'm committed to making Sarcasm & Lemons as user-friendly and inviting as possible.

  1. I really admire it! I love the sidebar titles using the font Adler - one of my faves! The color scheme is nothing like I have seen before, and it meshes well. I do think the damask background is a bit distracting, as I prefer plain, subtle ones - but your content is still readable! Yay for self-design!

    1. Oh, and I always wanted to know. Are you a psych major why there is a sidebar reference section on it? Very interesting.

    4. Thanks! I was especially worried about the background so I'll have to see. If a lot of people think it's too distracting, I might nix or simplify it.

    5. Oh, and I am indeed a psych major. Grad school. So I just like having that there because maybe someone will click some day and learn something new.

  2. I like the colours in the header but find the black font a bit blurry to be clearly readable. Great work on the layout. One day I might do something to improve mine - its only merit at the moment is that it is simple and reasonably uncluttered. Cheers

    1. Good to know. I may have to play with that. On the subject of simple and uncluttered: I think people underestimate how nice that can look!

  3. I seem to be changing mine every month ^.^; Still settling to see what's right for us. Yours, for the most part, seems to be something worth keeping.

    (a) I like it. The header is nice, although I would really love it if you cleared it up just a smidge. The background is good too, but if you can find a better one, that would be fantastic. I think that you should move your Linkie and Networked Blogs widgets up so more people would be able to see that it's there.

    (b) No.

    (c) Nope.

    (d) Negative.

    1. It took me nearly two years to change mine, so I'm a bit behind the times. I may have to lighten up the background. Also, thanks for pointing out the linky and networked widgets. I didn't even realized they'd gotten down there!

  4. I like the header and I like the orange lines of titles (i.e. for the sidebar --->) and the font you chose for them... I wish there was some sort of border on your posts though. I also find it a bit harder to read the post itself with the background, but that might just be me and the background is so pretty~. Otherwise, good luck with the edits :)

    1. Great tips! I think I'm definitely going to play around with the background now and will see if a post border looks okay. Thank you!
