  | More Happy Than Not by Adam Silvera
This adorable-yet-heartwrenching story is about a gay teen discovering--and ultimately trying to escape--his sexuality. It's about what happens when people feel that they can't be themselves. |
two |
|
What We Left Behind by Robin Talley
This one isn't out yet, but it features two teen girls whose loving relationship cracks as they struggle through college, new loves, and discovering their gender identities. Gender fluidity for the win! |
three |
| Court of Fives by Kate Elliott
This stellar fantasy features a badass female athlete who is biracial in a world defined by ethnic purism, a world that can be deadly to people who fit outside of its lines. |
four |
 | Slice of Cherry by Dia Reeves
This hidden gem is a deliciously sadistic account of two sisters linked not only by their serial killer father, but also by their new-found blood-lust. Aimed only at people who deserve it, of course. |
five |
 | The Walled City by Ryan Graudin
This gritty book is set in a walled city based off a real place that once stood in Hong Kong. Three teens--an unwilling prostitute, a street kid, and a rich boy fallen from grace--fight for their lives in the dangerous, drug-infested streets. |
six |
 | The Assassin's Curse by Cassandra Rose Clarke
Ananna wants to be a pirate captain, not some ally's bride. Her narrow escape entwines her fate with Naji, an assassin who hides secrets darker than the bodies he's left behind. |
seven |
 | Quicksilver by R.J. Anderson
Tori might be asexual. She also might be an alien. One thing's for sure: if she doesn't use her mechanical smarts and keep her wits about her, she could wind up in the test lab of an unscrupulous research facility with a dangerous agenda.
|
eight |
 | Sketchy by Olivia Samms
Bea is an artist, but she doesn't just draw what she sees. She also draws the past and the future. This fantasy murder mystery is slated to be a CW series! |
nine |
 | The Girl from the Well by Rin Chupeco
Based on a real Japanese legend, this horror novel follows a living boy and a dead girl on a quest for vengeance.
|
ten |
 | The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie
A teen boy with dreams of a career in cartoons leaves the safety of the reservation to attend an all-white school. Alexie weaves his own childhood experiences into this growing-up story.

A great list C.J. I want to read quite a few of these books! Thanks for the recommendations!
ReplyDeleteMy TTT!
Glad you enjoy it! :D
DeleteYou have several books on your list I was thinking about reading, now I know I must. Eek. The list grows longer.
ReplyDeleteAnne's Top Ten
I know, right? I'm never going to finish my TBR...
DeleteOmg, you just added SO MANY BOOKS TO MY TBR!! This is so fantastic! :D I love diverse books and while I think I do read a lot of them, it's never enough. ;-) I loved The Girl from the Well (SO EXCITED FOR THE SEQUEL) and now I'm desperate for Court of Fives and Slice of Cherry (freaky sisters? yes please). *adds a million books to TBR*
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by @ Paper Fury!
YAY I HAVE WON TUESDAY. Omg, Court of Fives is amazing and you I think will especially appreciate the wicked goodness that is Slice of Cherry. MWUAHAHAHA.
DeleteI love this list! *-*
ReplyDeleteThank you! :D
DeleteWe share Alexie's novel and I'm really hoping to read The Girl From the Well soon!
ReplyDeleteCheck out my TTT and my leg of the Forsworn Blog Tour.
It was really delightful!
DeleteGreat list. The Part-Time Indian book made my list this week, too. I also have More Happy Than Not sitting on my TBR shelf, but I haven’t gotten to it yet.
ReplyDeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Thanks! Oooh, reeeead it! It's so fabulous.
DeleteI'm glad to see Alexie's book on so many listsl :-) One you mention I was not familiar with is The Assassin's Curse by Cassandra Rose Clarke, which sounds like it would be really good. I am going to have to check that one out.
ReplyDeleteIt's so good! I love the whole pirate thing and the Middle Eastern-inspired fantasy world.
DeleteSlice of Cherry was delightfully twisted! :D
ReplyDeleteI've seen Court of Fives around a lot, but assumed it was just another YA Fantasy. Now I'm interested though! Assuming is bad! Shame on me!
Here's my top ten!
YAY I'm so glad someone else has read it! I feel like I'm the only one, which is sad because it's ridiculously, wickedly amazing.
DeleteIt is a YA fantasy, but it's definitely not just a clone. Tsk tsk. ;P As your punishment, you must read it!
Excited for What We Left Behind! Loved Robin's debut and can't wait to see what else she's got up her sleeves!
ReplyDeleteHer debut was so great! I haven't even read What We Left Behind yet, but I'm pretty sure it's going to be just as awesome.
DeleteWhat we left Behind sounds great and I havent heard of it before. Awesome Picks. Check out my Top Ten Tuesday
ReplyDeleteRobin Talley is a fabulous writer. I trust it'll be phenomenal.
DeleteI'm so happy to have Court Of Fives because I love badass females!! I've also been wanting to read The Assassin's Curse and The Walled City for a while now. I'm curious about The Girl from the Well but it looks really creepy and reminds me of The Ring and The Grudge lol.
ReplyDelete~Karina @ A Reader Under The Sea
Right!? Jes is so cool and competent, and doesn't let herself be defined by her expected roles. I think Girl from the Well was based on the same legend as those two, so it's definitely got that feel.
DeleteOh wow, the only book I have read on your list is More Happy Than Not which, yes celebrates diversity. Have you read Court of Fives. I'm reading it very soon and I wanted to see what you thought. You've definitely got me excited by including it on this list.
ReplyDeleteCassi
I did, I read it last week. It's SO freaking good. The story is super exciting, it's well written, AND it deals really well with diversity in a way that seems natural, not preachy. I hope you love it! Definitely tell me what you think.
DeleteFirst off, I absolutely adore your blog name! I've only read More Happy Than Not from your list, which I highly recommend too, but What We Left Behind made my list as well.
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU! :D I'm excited for What We Left Behind.
DeleteI heard The Absolute True Diary is really good! And I have The Girl from the Well on my e-reader but I'm too chicken to start it yet. :)
ReplyDeleteJulie @ Books and Insomnia
Ooh, start it! Maybe with a night light?
DeleteMaybe I'll just read it during the day. LOL :D
