c.j.'s selections ten ten ten
|
one |
  | Magonia by Maria Dahvana Headley
Aza and Jason are both of the bookish persuasion. They like to read, and they're also just booky sorts who love knowledge. |
two |
|
A History of Glitter and Blood by Hannah Moskowitz
Several of the characters are readers, especially Beckan and Scrap. In fact, they have many delightful conversations about books, especially how Scrap thinks they should read snobby histories and Beckan likes romance (and knows that Scrap reads her romances in secret). |
three |
| Mechanica by Betsey Cornwall
Nicolette, aka Mechanica, is an avid reader, though many of her books have been destroyed by her vicious sisters. Her love of fairy tales plays a huge part! |
four |
 | All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven
Books also help to form the relationship between Finch and Violet (which is freaking adorable, so read it!). They literally flirt using quotes from Virginia Woolf. I'm gonna let that sink in. Also there's some adorable Doctor Suess dancing. |
five |
 | Afterworlds by Scott Westerfeld
Not only is Darcy an avid reader, but she's also a writer! A young adult writer who's just published her first book. Bonus: half of the scenes are actually the book Darcy has written. It's the ultimate meta-book-book! |
six |
 | The Fault in Our Stars by John Green
You've probably never heard of this one before, but it's a sad, poignant book whose main character is an avid reader and totally obsessed with a literary masterpiece with a crotchety author. |
seven |
 | A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket
Lest we forget this beautiful masterpiece (WHICH IS GONNA BE A NETFLIX SHOW OMG), I shall remind you: Klaus was the researcher of the trio, always with a book in his hand. He pretty much owns bookishness.
|
eight |
 | Matilda by Roald Dahl
Speaking of quintessential readerly characters, Matilda's whole story was basically about her reading book after book and endearing herself to Ms. Honey with her precocious adorableness. |
nine |
 | Belzhar by Meg Wolitzer
Jam may not be your typical bookish character, but her story does revolve around reading The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath.
|
ten |
 | And We Stay by Jenny Hubbard
Emily loves reading--especially poetry, especially from another famous Emily--and uses it as a coping mechanism to work through her own issues. Like many people we might know...

Love your list! :-) I like that you've got some different choices! I had to have Matilda on my list this week too. My TTT!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I was trying to pick ones I don't usually pick (hem Throne of Glass, even though Celaena is totally a badass reader).
DeleteI can't believe I forgot about Klaus! He was definitely one of my favorite childhood characters, right after Harry Potter main characters. I've been meaning to read Afterworlds so it makes me happy that I've seen it today on quite a few blogs. I can't wait to read Mechanica! I heard many great things about it and the fact that she's a fellow reader just makes me even more excited to read the book.
ReplyDeleteLovely list.
My TTT
Mine too! Afterworlds was pretty well done, definitely a cool concept. I freaking loved Mechanica! One of the best retellings I've read, and just a great book in general. I hope you enjoy it!
Deletehahahahah What is this The Fault in our Stars of which you speak? Never heard of it! ;)
ReplyDeleteGreat list! Here is my TTT if you want to check it out: http://www.bookworminkorporated.com/book-nerd-characters/
It's a mythical text known only to the initiated. Mwuahahahaha!
DeleteI have Afterworlds here but I haven't read it yet. I need to get on that.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed it. The book-within-book parts aren't as developed as Darcy's parts, in my opinion, but it was still a fun read.
DeleteMatilda and Klaus are great choices! Also, your explanation of TFiOS? Priceless! Great list.

Tehe, I amuse myself. I'm glad I amuse some others too. Thanks!
DeleteI had Hazel too. I actually haven't read the rest though most are on my TBR. Great list!
ReplyDeleteThey're all favorites, so I recommend them highly!
DeleteI had Hazel on my list too. Some of these I haven't heard of but they sound wonderful! Great list.

Thanks! :D
DeleteI can't believe I forgot Hazel! *hits head on desk* I only had two of the same book nerd characters in my Top Ten Tuesday post. After reading your blurb about All the Bright Places, I want to read it ASAP! I'll add it to the top of my TBR list, once I finish some other necessary books :)

I can't believe I forgot Celaena at first! >.> OMG YAY! I love that book and I love getting people to read it even more. I hope you love it as much as I do!

I was already very excited for Mechanica, but finding out that she's a book nerd, too? Makes me even more excited. Great list!
ReplyDeleteMy TTT
Such a good book! Thanks!
DeleteGreat picks! There are so many on here I want/need to read but seriously excited for A History of Glitter and Blood!
ReplyDeleteMy TTT
It's definitely not for everyone, but I thought it was freaking brilliant.
DeleteI chose Hazel Grace and Augustus this week on my list. I loved The Fault in Our Stars. :) I'm hoping to read Mechanica soon. Great list!
ReplyDeleteKrystianna @ Downright Dystopian
Oh wow, I still need to read Magonia, Mechanica, The Fault in our Stars and Afterworlds. O.O At least I own Magonia and Afterworlds so I should really get to them soon! Lovely selection here^^ I like how popular Mathilda is and I love that you included Lemony Snicket :) xx
ReplyDeleteI thought about putting Belzhar as well. I cannot believe I did not think of Matilda. I actually really struggled with this one.
