one |
| Ruined - Amy Tintera
So there's a betrothal, and the wrong girl tricks her way into marrying the prince, all to save her war-ravaged kingdom. The whole enemy-to-lover thing is done a lot, but I love the intrigue of this plot! |
two | |
The Last Life of Avrilis - Bethany C. Morrow
This one's a crazy combo of repeated lives, subterranean cities, other planets, and a guy trying to end the world. Perfect for my mission to read more sci-fi, and hugely compelling. |
three |
| Into White - Randi Pink
A black girl at a mostly white high school prays for the power to change her race--and wakes up white. I'm super excited to see how Pink handles such a daring angle on race and racism. |
four |
|
Beyond the Red - Ava Jae
An alien queen must save her people from her brother's tyrannical rule, but a captive from the very rebels she's trying to exterminate changes her mind, and heart. Genocide is a big topic, and Jae tackles it on a huge sci-fi scope.
|
five |
| Wink Poppy Midnight - April Genevieve Tucholke
I'm still not totally sure what this is about and that's half the fun. It's a magical realism mystery with dark overtones and a whimsical backdrop. It's like a freaking Tim Burton movie.
|
six | | Strange the Dreamer - Laini Taylor
I added this just based on Taylor, whose Daughter of Smoke and Bone is an all-time favorite, but GR tells me it's about the aftermath of war between gods and men, a dangerous girl, a clever librarian, nightmares, and carnage, and I love all those things and want them in my life. |
seven |
| Thicker Than Water - Kelly Fiore Stultz
A girl ends up selling her brother's prescription painkillers to pay the bills--and ends up on trial for his murder. Break out the tissues on this one. Or so I hear.
|
eight | | Nevernight - Jay Kristoff
Half the mind behind the brilliant Illuminae brings the story of a fledgling assassin living in a city built from the freaking bones of a dead god. My black icy heart is twitching in evil glee right now. |
nine | | Heartless - Marissa Meyer
The queen of fairy tale retellings takes on Alice in Wonderland, aka the story that gives my body breath. Poor Cath, heir to the Kingdom of Hearts. All she wants is to bake tarts. Until a romance starts.
|
ten |
| Shallow Graves - Kali Wallace
Even though the MC's name is Breezy, I'm drawn in by the Holly Black and Nova Ren Suma comparison--and the premise, a girl waking up a year after her death who finds herself in a gritty halfworld, hunted by a cult. Give me all the darkness!

Into White sounds like it could be fascinating. I'll have to add it to my tbr. :)
ReplyDeleteCheck out my TTT and Music Monday.
I think that's going to a be a huge one. Glad you found something new!
DeleteOh wow. Into White sounds really interesting. I added it to my list. I'm bummed it won't be published until September, but at least now I know about it. Great list. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteRight? It's a long wait but totally worth it, I hope. Thanks! You too!
DeleteRuined is absolutely amazing CJ and I can't wait to see what you think of it! And I am so excited for Heartless (especially after the amazingness that was Fairest!) and Shallow Graves. Thanks for sharing and, as always, fabulous post! ♥
ReplyDeleteYAY! I'm glad to hear that because I was a little unsure about it, but I usually like what you like. :P (I still have to read Fairest. I'm saving it for a day I'm missing Luna.) Thanks so much as always! <3
DeleteInto White almost made me fall over. Must read that without delay.
ReplyDeleteSeriously, it's such a knockout concept!
DeleteStrange the Dreamer made my list this week too and Heartless should have done as well (what was I thinking?!) I actually just discovered Beyond the Red but I NEED it. Shallow Graves and Ruined are both on my radar too^^ Fantastic selection here CJ!
ReplyDeleteI am so excited for Heartless and Laini Taylor's new book! Great picks :)
