c.j.'s selections ten ten ten

one |
| The Raven Boys - Maggie Stiefvater
Even though I didn't like Shiver, EVERYONE has read this but me! I want to know who Gansey is and why all the swoons. |
two |
|
Fangirl - Rainbow Rowell
Landline was meh and Eleanor and Park was okay, but I'm not giving up yet! Must read about fanfiction. |
three |
| The Brothers Karamazov - Fyodr Dostoyevsky
I've started this book THREE times during grad school. This time, I'm actually going to go through it instead of putting it off. |
four |
|
Abarat - Clive Barker
I got halfway through this my first year of grad school, four years ago. I've been halfway through since. It's not even that I didn't like it. I was just distracted!
|
five |
| Legend - Marie Lu
This goes both for wanting to read more diverse books by diverse authors and wanting to read this series that everyone and their mother raves about.
|
six |
| The 5th Wave - Rick Yancey
I can't in good conscience see the movie until I read the book.
|
seven |
| City of Ashes - Cassandra Clare
Speaking of books I've been halfway through for four years...
|
eight |
| Code Name Verity - Elizabeth Wein
Again, everyone else has read it, and they say it's beautiful and full of friendship and love and maybe some dying and stuff. I waaants it. |
nine |
| Vicious - V.E. Schwab
Seriously, why do I keep not reading books that I know I am going to like!? It's like I want to torture myself or something.
|
ten |
| The Name of the Star - Maureen Johnson
Things I've heard. "Good." "Dark as f**k." Things I've decided. "GIMME."

Oh yeah I need to read Raven Boys as well. Book one's rusting in my kindle and I have the netgalley for book two. I am a bad girl. The Shiver books never took me at all from sample readings so I did not even touch that series. Fanfiction rocks and I recently got Eleanor and Park. Will try to read it within the next three months. Legend is also starving on my kindle. Read City of Ashes and it was okay. The real hurdle is City of Glass. I could not finish that book for a long time and it turned me off the series for a long while. Only got book 4 last year and still not done with that. Love the author but...yeah. No matter what all of her stuff is way better than that puk-o-rama called Magesterium.
ReplyDeleteBest of luck reading these books and I hope you enjoy them.
Ha, I actually liked Magisterium, but I also give it some slack since it's MG. Someday I really will finish her other stuff.
DeleteThanks!
I loved Code Name Verity and I hope you do too. The audio version was excellent :-)
ReplyDeleteStephanie Jane
I never do audio because I'm weird, but the hardcover is sitting on my shelf, waiting...
DeleteI love the way you did this. There are so many backlist books I'm resolving to read as well. Plus, I'm a huge fan of a lot of these books including The Raven Boys, Fangirl, Vicious, and Code Name Verity.
ReplyDeleteCassi @ My Thoughts Literally
Thanks! I'm not good at big vague resolutions, but I figure I could probably handle specific books. I'm excited to read them!
DeleteIf I make it through Brothers Karamazov, anyone can haha :)
ReplyDeleteHaha, thanks for the vote of confidence! :)
DeleteOoh this is fun! I would say run, don't walk, to read The Raven Boys!!! Hands down, it is my favorite YA series ever. It's so beautiful, so unique! I also loved Fangirl, although completely different!
ReplyDeleteGreat resolutions, happy 2016!!
Wow, ringing endorsement! I can't tell you how many people have yelled at me for not reading them yet.
DeleteThanks, you too!
I really hated Shiver, but The Raven Boys is so good! Very interesting and unpredictable. To me, the Legend trilogy is just meh, though. The Name of the Star is SO. GOOD. More people need to read it!!! The Fifth Wave... definitely read it before seeing the movie, because it's CRAZY
ReplyDeleteOh good, this gives me confidence that I might feel the same way. Ha, I'll have to binge 5th Wave to get ready.
DeleteVicious is amazing!! I wasn't a huge fan of Eleanor and Park or Landline all that much, but I love her other two, Fangirl and Attachments!
ReplyDelete~Sara
Hm, good, good. This means there's a chance I might like the other ones too.
DeleteVicious is pure amazing, a must for anyone who loves compelling and morally gray protagonists (who doesn't!) Fangirl is so relatable and heartwarming - I don't usually reach for contemporary but SO MUCH LOVE for this title.
ReplyDeleteAentee at Read at Midnight
Those are my favorite kind of protagonists!
DeleteRaven Boys, Vicious and Fangirl are three books I can't recommend enough! I hope you will read them this year CJ and that you'll love them as much as I do :D Code Name Verity, Legend and 5th Wave are all ones I need to read too^^ Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteI totally will, because now I put it in print and I'll be all embarrassed and sad at the end of 2016 if I haven't read them. ;)
DeleteYessss READ VICIOUS. I loved that book so so much. But honestly I've put off all of VE Schwab's other books even though I'm like 99% sure I'll love them too. XD Idek why?!? Because my Vulcan heart can't take the feels?! Hehe
ReplyDeleteAnd obviously YES you should read The Raven Boys. *ahem*
And I need to read The 5th Wave too. 0_0 I kind of can't believe I haven't already?!? Sheesh, what have I been doing with my life?!? :P
HA I've read all the others and you will LOVE LOVE LOVE them because they're witty and dry and there might be some kind of cake?
DeleteYOU, recommending Raven Boys? I'm shocked. ;)
I guess we're both just twiddling our thumbs out in space here.
