Who Wore It Better, Covers: Love Letters to the Dead by Ava Dellaira vs Dreaming of Antigone by Robin Bridges

who wore it better             book covers

Books have so many options when they dress for their big debut, but sometimes, they end up wearing very similar styles.  In the vein of all my favorite trashy Hollywood magazines...

love letters to the dead VS dreaming of antigone

I ran across Dreaming of Antigone on an Amazon spree and got smacked in the face by deja vu.  It's like someone took EXACTLY THE SAME colors and elements and then hit randomize.  Twice.  Antigone paired its starry sunset with a puff of pink and a hand-lettered pink name, while Love Letters went for subtler accessories in basic white sans serif.  Love Letters also shook up the title with a little color switching and a free-floating dream girl, while Antigone spiced it up with a basic drop shadow.  In the end, they're so freaking similar that it's hard to pick, but I think Love Letters pulled off this combo best.  The sparser sprinkling of stars and ombre fade make the title text pop, and the lack of grounding gives a dreamy feel.  Antigone's author text competes too much for attention with the title, looking tacked on, and that green ground just has no business hanging out among the pastels.

How do you prefer your starry night?

  1. "So what is Antigone?...Here?" thought on the matter from my son. He prefers the cover for Antigone, as do I. The boyfriend likes Letters better. Always gotta be different. Lol.
