C.J.'s WARCROSS team
the captain
Darrow au Andromedus aka "Reaper"
Darrow (Red Rising by Pierce Brown) is one of my favorite characters and he's a natural leader. Coming from the impoverished mines of Mars, he rose through the ranks of the elite Golds, inspiring such fierce loyalty in the hearts of his followers that they followed him into danger, death, and revolution.
the thief
Will Perry
Lyra was a near tie for Captain, but her counterpart Will (The Subtle Knife by Phillip Pullman) would make an excellent thief. After all, he stole the Subtle Knife from under the nose of a crazed scholar and a vicious collector; he stole Lyra from under her mother's nose. His father called him a warrior, but his unassuming demeanor and cunning would make for a formidable thief.
the architect
Joseph Kavinsky aka "Kavinsky"
The architect is a position for dreamers, and although I nearly put Gansey and Ronan into this role, I think it's a place where Kavinsky (The Dream Thieves by Maggie Stiefvater) would shine. I always wanted more of him, so I can't resist giving him a second home on my Warcross team. His creativity and vision were too dangerous for the real world, but in a Warcross match, he'd bend the worlds until the other team broke.
the shield
Jessamy aka "Jes" aka "Spider"
While Jes (Court of Fives by Kate Elliott) could comfortably fit into any of the Warcross positions, I give her Shield. She's sly enough to be a thief and scrappy enough to be a fighter, with the foresight of an architect. However, one of the most important qualities is that she uses all these skills to protect those around her--on the Fives court or in the digital world.
the fighter
Gauri aka "Jewel of Bharata"
The princess is no delicate flower. Gauri (Crown of Wishes by Roshani Choksha) fought her way out of a king's dungeon and a god's game--not to mention, she was the key captain in many a battle. She combines brute force with ruthlessness and clever calculation: a dangerous mix.
